Haley’s Motel on Anna Maria Island – More than a Room!

When you stay with us at Haley’s, you get much more than a room. You get a true feel for the “Old Florida” life as it was 60 years ago but with all the modern amenities needed for a comfortable stay. Each one of our original 14 units is unique in design, layout and furnishings. We have single motel rooms with mini fridge and microwave, 2 room studios with full kitchens, 4 one bedroom cottages and a duplex – each side with 2 bedrooms, 2 baths, full kitchen and large living room. And new in 2012, we have a beautiful 3 bedroom house.

That is the rooms – now for the character. We have gardens seldom seen at vacation get away. Wander the grounds and see orchids, lilies, banana palms and 2 water gardens! Have morning coffee in the shady Orchid Room or relax at one of the many secluded sitting areas. Of course we have a heated pool for our guests to enjoy. Or take one of our carts and load it with complimentary beach towels and chairs and take a short walk to our private beach with brilliant white sugary sand – great place for a spectacular sunset.

For those wanting more than relaxation, we can plan and book all kinds of activities for you. From boating, sailing, kayak, and Segway tours, to parasailing, zip lining and mini golf. We can arrange rentals for bikes, golf carts, baby accessories or just about anything you want. And one of favorite things to do is to talk to you about the incredible variety of great restaurants the island has and direct you to the ones you seek.

Our goal is to provide an exceptional experience for you. Come stay with us and see for yourself how we do.

Turtle Watch History

For 100’s, if not 1000’s of years, several species of sea turtles have swam, feed and nested around Anna Maria Island. These modern dinosaurs have and continue to play an essential role in our marine ecosystems. Every summer, the females make the migration to our beaches to lay their eggs in buried nests. With minimal interference from humans and a little luck avoiding numerous predators, the hatchlings make their way back to sea – hopefully to thrive and mature to return in 30 years or so and begin the cycle again.

For 28 years Anna Maria Island Turtle Watch has coordinated conservation efforts for 12 miles of Manatee County shoreline.  In almost three decades, we monitored 6539  turtle activities, protected 3534  nests, 29,694 turtle eggs, and watched 215,680  hatchlings depart to become a future generation of loggerheads.

The program includes staff, interns and volunteers who have documented the status of shoreline habitat and trends in sea turtle nesting. These data show that nesting by loggerhead turtles has declined, and then rebounded in recent years. AMITW & Shorebird Monitoring coordinates with county, state and federal efforts to conserve sea turtles — particularly loggerheads. Manatee and Sarasota County hosts the highest density of loggerhead nests in the Gulf of Mexico.

To aid this dedicated and tireless group, Haleys Motel has sponsored a nest this year. We are also offering a $25 credit for a stay with us to anyone who will adopt a hatchling. Info can be found at http://islandturtlewatch.com/get-involved/adopt-a-hatc hling/. Join us in helping to protect this incredible resource.
